CAERNARFON PEACE TRAIL

App - Caernarfon Peace Trail

Over the 100 years since the First World War, Gwynedd and the Caernarfon Community have been at the heart of Wales’ stories reflecting the impact of war, and the search for peace. This trail has been put together by community groups and volunteers working with the ‘Wales for Peace’ project, and includes hidden histories, inspiring stories, interactive and educational resources for schools. Visitors without a Smartphone can download and print a bilingual copy of the Caernarfon Peace Trail visitors leaflet here.

Make the most of your visit to Caernarfon by exploring the beautiful walled town, via this 'Remembering for Peace' trail.

Through Autumn 2016, alongside the visit of 'Poppies: Weeping Window' to Caernarfon Castle,  WCIA's Wales for Peace project worked with Cadw, Gwynedd Museums and Mantell Gwynedd to support involvement of community groups and volunteers in exploring the impact of WW1 on Gwynedd.

The Welsh WW1 Book of Remembrance - now on display in Oriel Ynys Mon from May to July 2017 - was displayed in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers Museum, with the 'faces of the fusiliers' bringing to life the individuals behind the names.

Community-led events, schools activites and our 'Caernarfon Peace Trail' will continue through 2017-18 to explore the impact of the war on Gwynedd - on soldiers, families and communities, refugees and opponents of war - and how the horrors of war inspired people to work for peace, from the women's movement to Wales' International Youth Message of Peace and Goodwill.
